About me (Jessica)
Hi, I’m Jessica, an Accredited Practising Dietitian with over 15 years of experience helping people feel better in their bodies and more confident in their food choices.
I’ve worked across hospitals, private practice, and community settings, supporting a wide range of people with diverse nutrition needs and now operate Essence of Eating as a sole trader Dietitian.
As a mum of three, I understand the juggle of real life and bring a practical, compassionate approach to each consultation. Whether you're dealing with a complex condition or just want clarity and confidence around food, I’m here to help.
As a dietitian, one of the most common assumptions is that my diet is perfect. And while I like to think I practice what I preach and thoroughly enjoy plenty and a variety of whole foods, I absolutely also enjoy other fun foods too. I love to enjoy a meal out with my husband or family or friends at a local Freo restaurant.
Some of my favourite foods I love year round are sushi/ sashimi, avocado and goats cheese on toast, freshly cooked salmon and roasted potatoes, Lindt dark chocolate and Ferraro Rochers, salt and vinegar chips/ crackers of any kind and a white chocolate raspberry muffin.
When you work with me, you’ll find a calm, compassionate space where your goals and lived experience are front and centre. I don’t do strict rules or one-size-fits-all plans. I listen, ask questions, and tailor practical advice to your lifestyle. I pride myself on gathering a good amount of information which gives me a ‘bigger picture’ view and understand what’s really important to you.
Whether you're managing a health condition, navigating unwanted changes with weight, or simply wanting clarity in a confusing food world, I’m here to help you feel more confident and at ease with food.
I have people who I have work with for years, and some just one or two consults. There is no right or wrong. I love my work because each person brings their own real life experiences, medical history and challenges that I find very privileged to work through with them.

What it’s like to work with me
What is an Accredited Practising Dietitian? (APD)
An Accredited Practising Dietitian is required to complete a 3 year nutrition undergraduate degree, plus a two year Masters degree in Dietetics. This includes a practical component including community, hospital and food service placements. An APD is required to follow a code of conduct and must keep up to date with the latest scientific evidence based research and by taking part in ongoing education every year.
Accredited Practising Dietitians are university educated and qualified to deliver evidence based services. Recognised university qualifications are one of the things that sets APDs apart from nutritionists.
APDs are the only recognised nutrition professional able to provide dietetic services under Medicare, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and most private health funds.
APDs don’t apply a one-size-fits-all approach. They understand what works for one person may be different to what works for you. It’s at this individual level that an APD can help. They consider the whole person – each person’s medical history, as well as their needs, goals, preferences and lifestyle
